About Hospice and Palliative Care

The mission of the Veterans Affairs Hospice and Palliative Care initiative
is to "honor a veteran's preferences for care at the end of life".  Hospice and
Palliative care collectively represent a continuum of comfort-oriented and
supportive services provided in the home, community and inpatient settings
for persons with advanced disease.  Programs emphasize the comprehensive
management of the physical, psychosocial, social and spiritual needs of the
patient and include bereavement care for the family.
