Visiting Hours and Parking
Regular visiting hours in the main hospital and on the Self-Care unit are from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.; visiting hours in the Nursing Home are from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Exceptions can be made in special circumstances; if your family has difficulties, please talk to your unit staff about it. Since patients need time to rest, and to prevent disturbances to other patients, we ask that your visitors be limited to 2 at a time. Please make sure your visitors are healthy, since our patients have enough concerns without being exposed to cold germs or other illnesses.
Seriously ill and Intensive Care Unit patients may be visited at any time; again, please limit visitors to 2 at a time.
Children may be visitors to the units. Please check with nursing staff before a child is brought into your room, and, for the sake of the child and other patients, never leave the child unattended in the building or on hospital grounds. Children, for their own protection, will not be allowed into respiratory isolation rooms.
Pets may not visit the hospital at all. The only exceptions to this rule will be guide dogs or other service animals assisting disabled individuals.
Parking Lots
Visitor and patient parking is located directly in front of the main hospital building in the Diamond, Opal, and Garnet parking areas. Handicapped spaces are available. Parking is also available along the south side street in the Sapphire areas. Service to and from the parking lots is provided by shuttle service. Since parking is so limited, well veterans and visitors are encouraged to park with the employees at the Steve & Barry's parking lot in the west end of the University Square Mall, and ride the buses to and from the hospital.
Bus Service From Steve & Barry's
Bus service to the hospital from the Steve & Barry's parking lot and back is provided.
Buses operate from:
6:30 to 9 a.m. – seven buses running.
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – four buses running.
5 to 9 p.m. – one bus running.
Two "Employee Express" buses run to and from Stop 4 in the Steve & Barry’s parking lot to Stop 1 at the main hospital. These buses run from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m.
VA Shuttle buses are non-handicapped equipped vehicles because they have high-steps.
Valet Parking
A free valet parking service is available for patients and visitors Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the main entrance of the hospital. After 5 p.m., keys may be picked up at the security desk in the Emergency Department.
