The Atlanta VA Regional Office is responsible for delivering non-medical VA benefits and services to Georgia Veterans and their dependent family members. This is accomplished through the administration of comprehensive and diverse benefit programs established by Congress. Our goal is to deliver these benefits and services in a timely, accurate, and compassionate manner. The Atlanta Regional Office (RO) is located at 1700 Clairmont Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033. The Office is comprised of the Compensation & Pension, Education, Loan Guaranty, and Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment business lines. We are staffed with approximately 778 employees.
The Compensation & Pension Veterans Service Center (VSC) delivers non-medical benefits for over 162,000 veterans and/or their dependent family members for compensation, pension, death compensation, or death pension payments that exceed $200,600,000 monthly. The Veterans Service Center provides targeted outreach to Veterans' groups such as: homeless Veterans, returning Veterans, and women Veterans. Staffers are co-located at four military sites: Fort Benning, Fort Gordon, Fort Stewart, and Robins Air Force Base.
The Regional Processing Office (RPO) processes educational benefits (i.e. Montgomery GI Bill and Post- 9/11 GI Bill). Our region consists of two southern states (GA, NC) and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands; As of the end of fiscal year 2015, the RPO workload accounted for 7.7% of the national workload for education claims. The RPO processed 298,368 education claims.
The Regional Loan Center (RLC) is the largest in the nation, processing loan originations and property valuations for all VA guaranteed loans for the states of Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In addition, we administer the Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) program for eligible veterans within these states. Through the VALERI System, we assist veterans in foreclosure avoidance throughout the nation. The RLC led the nation in SAH grant approvals, processing 314 SAH grants in fiscal year 2015 totaling $18.19 million (which represents 18.9% of the national total). The RLC also guaranteed 87,367 home loans through that same timeframe, while also assisting 4,498 Veterans in the avoidance of foreclosure.
The Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E) Division provides a wide range of vocational rehabilitation services for approximately 5,600 Veterans and service-members in Georgia. We assist in providing services aimed at employment and independent living goals. The office continues to provide services to an increasing number of Veterans, and saw a 19% end-of-year increase in applications during fiscal year 2015. VR&E has also played an integral role in establishing Tele-Counseling across the Department, by serving as a pilot station for implementation of this new avenue to communicate with and provide services to Veterans.
