Medical-Surgical Service

Medical-Surgical Services (MSS) is composed of a number of components that are designed to ensure that the best overall preventive, clinical, spiritual and religious, and nutritional care is made available to the veteran patient.   MSS is headquartered in VA Central Office (VACO) and headed by the Chief Consultant.   Reporting to the Chief Consultant are a number of VACO and field based national program directors and chiefs that are responsible for programs related to, Eye Care, Nutrition, Oncology, Diabetes, Renal Diseases, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Diseases, Surgery, Podiatry, Pain Management, Solid Organ and Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplantation, Anesthesia, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, and Chaplain Services.  This structure is set in a fashion that allows for an open interface and networking of all MSS components. 

 

MSS has a number of field based clinical programs that it also provides oversight to.  These include the VA Transplant Centers, Multiple Sclerosis Centers of Excellence, and Parkinson's Disease Research, Educational, and Clinical Centers.
