The
Minneapolis VA Medical Center (MVAMC) and the Department of
Veterans Affairs is seeking to attract, develop, and retain
people who provide high quality service to our Nation's veterans
and their families.
Excellent employment opportunities are available in all areas of our dynamic
healthcare system. In fiscal year 2005, the medical center employed over 3000. The composition was: 205 physicians, 748 registered nurses, 265 licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants, and 1822 other types of employees. The medical center treated over 71,000 unique patients. The outpatient workload was 581,223.
The number
of registered nurses and licensed physicians are higher than the average number
for similar-sized VA medical centers, indicating a commitment to enhanced staffing
levels to care for our complex patient population. Over 90 percent of Minneapolis
VAMC physicians are board certified, demonstrating dedication to the highest
level of certification and training. The racial diversity of staff at Minneapolis
VAMC is 12 percent, and we are diverse in age and educational level as well.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and the Unions 1969 and
3669 represent employees in strong and productive management labor partnerships.
A physicians association was formed in 2001 in order to collectively represent
physician issues to management. This partnership is pivotal in daily operations
and planning and exemplifies a culture of communication and collaboration established
by management. This Medical Center is an Equal Employment Opportunity facility.
The Minneapolis VA medical center is also responsible for the planning and operation of six
Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Minnesota. The medical center
is part of VA Network 23, which includes facilities in Fargo, North Dakota; Fort
Meade, Hot Springs (Black Hills HC System); Sioux Falls, South Dakota; St. Cloud,
Minnesota; Des Moines and Knoxville (Central Iowa HCS), Iowa City, Iowa; and
Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska (Nebraska-Western Iowa HCS).
