What Can I Do?

If a pandemic occurs, illness likely will be widespread.  Transportation services in your community may be disrupted and being able to work may be difficult.  Schools, day care, and community places may be closed for extended periods of time to prevent the spread of illness.  Services such as grocery stores, shopping malls, and gas stations may be limited.  There are actions you can take to prepare yourself and your family in the event if a pandemic occurs.

Keep Supplies in Your Home
Have a two week supply of food and water available
Don’t forget about pet food if you have pets!
Keep your prescriptions filled Keep a supply of non-prescription drugs such as pain relievers, cough and cold remedies, vitamins, etc.
Store extra personal care products such as tissues, toilet paper, soap, etc.
First Aid kit
Have a back up plan for work and day care

Stay Healthy
Get your annual flu shot each fall
Pneumonia vaccine as recommended (particularly children under 2 years and adults over 65 years)
Exercise regularly, eat a well balanced diet
Don’t smoke
Get enough sleep
Develop your home emergency plan

Practice Flu Prevention Now
Cover your coughs and sneezes with tissues or your upper sleeve if no tissue is available
Wash your hands often, especially after coughing or sneezing
Stay home if you are sick
Clean infected surfaces such as countertops and telephones
