In 2001, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) created six Parkinson’s Disease Research, Education and Clinical Centers (PADRECC) in an effort to improve care for veterans suffering from Parkinson’s disease and to pursue a cure for this condition. The centers are located in Philadelphia, Richmond, Houston, Portland, San Francisco and West Los Angeles.

The Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA is home to the PADRECC for the southeastern region of the United States.
