The Weekly Summary Bulletin

  1. How do I advertise a position vacancy VA-wide if it does not meet criteria for being posted in
    The Weekly Summary Bulletin?

    Answer:
A Generic Mailbox system has been implemented via Exchange to replace the former teletype system of communicating routine information items, including vacancy announcements at VHA facilities. IL 19-99-001 (dtd 5/27/99) has been issued by the Chief Information Office to explain the various procedures involved in the new system. This letter which can be accessed at http://vaww.va.gov/ohrm/mailbxes.pdf (no longer available) was sent to local IRM officials, especially those who are Exchange Administrators. Human Resources Management Officers have also received copies of IL 19-99-001 and have been advised to work out local coordination with IRM staff.

  2. Will HR Link$ provide a way for facilities to advertise vacancies VA-wide?
Answer: Although the long-term plan is for the VA to utilize an automated staffing system that would provide VA-wide vacancy announcements, the best current approach is to contact the specific facility(ies) at which you’re interested in working to determine their local recruitment procedures.
  3. What if my facility doesn’t have access to Microsoft Exchange or Intranet?
Answer: Part of the HR Link$ implementation activities involves providing Intranet access that supports the HR Link$ application at HR Link$ Access Points at each facility.
  4. How long does it take to get a vacancy announcement posted on the OHRM Weekly Summary Bulletin (WSB) web page?
Answer: Announcements received by Friday are posted on the following Monday, and no later than Tuesday. Corrected submissions are posted within 48 hours of receipt.
  5. Does anyone in Headquarters on the Executive Resources Team (052) review my vacancy announcement before it’s posted on the WSB web page?
    Answer:
No. Facility vacancy announcement information is transferred directly to the Intranet without review. If you find an error in your submission you may submit a corrected announcement to replace the original posting.
  6. Where do I find announcements about other VA vacancies and jobs in other agencies?
    Answer:
On VA OHRM’s Home page http://www.va.gov/ohrm/, use the three links under "Career Opportunities".
  7. Where can I find out about healthcare vacancies, such as physician, nurse, physician assistant and other healthcare opportunities?
    Answer:
Since recruitment is primarily a local responsibility, if you are interested in a specific location you should contact the Human Resources Management Office at those facilities at which you would like to work. Specific information regarding a number of healthcare professional vacancies is available at the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) careers Internet site at (http://www.vacareers.com) This site is managed by the VA Placement Service in New Orleans at 1-800-949-0002.
  8. Who do I call if I’m having a problem with Submission Procedures?
    Answer:
Call the OHRM WebManager (05) at 202-273-5005 or email VACO WSB mailbox
