Virginia is often known as
the state for lovers.

That is, lovers of beautiful art, nature, shopping, delicious cuisine, sports and much more! Richmond, the capital city, will place you at the heart of the excitement that Virginia has to offer and is the perfect place for the 32nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games.

The Games began more than 30 years ago on the campus of the Richmond VA Medical Center, and it is a privilege to have this event return to our community.

A short drive from the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean-and just south of our nation’s capital-Richmond is truly a great vacation destination.

Often described as the “biggest little town around,” the city has impressive cultural attractions, such as the Virginia Fine Arts Museum, which boasts international exhibits; the Edgar Allen Poe Museum; and the Science Museum of Richmond. We also have restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines in our Shockoe Bottom and Carytown communities, close to where the Games will take place. After a delicious meal, you can stroll through quaint shops to experience our small-town atmosphere.

Just a short drive from the hotelswhere you will stay is the impressive James River, the historic Agecroft Hall and President John Marshall’s home, among other interesting venues. You can also enjoy the beauty of nature near the city at Maymont Park and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.

For the sports fan, Richmond is home to two arena football teams. Or, you canvisit the Diamond for a Flying Squirrels baseball game and fireworks. And we are, of course, proud basketball fans, being home to the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s team (in the Final Four this year!) and the University of Richmond (in the Sweet 16).

We are very proud to host the Games and excited to share Richmond’s hospitality with athletes, coaches, volunteers and staff.
