  BIOSKETCH

Sooyeon Kwon, PhD, moved to the United States from Korea in 1999 to study epidemiology, health economics, and biostatistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Kwon received her Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the Ewha Womens' University, Seoul, Korea in 1993 and continued her education at the Seoul National University earning her M.S. in Pharmaceutics in 1996. Dr. Kwon was awarded her PhD in Pharmacy Health Care Administration from the University of Florida in June of 2004.

Dr. Kwon obtained research experience as a student intern with GlaxoSmithKline at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina evaluating the cost of diabetes in Europe. For her doctoral dissertation, she developed a disability transition model using the Markov modeling technique and evaluated the effectiveness of the ACE inhibitor in terms of post-stroke disability. She also explored the medication regimen complexity and its impact on patient’s medication adherence and biological outcomes in HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Kwon will serve on the Stroke QUERI Operations Committee, Methodology Core, and Goal 3 and Goal 4 groups.
