Project Background

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) provides national coverage decisions for the Medicare program as well as information to the Medicare carriers, affecting the health care of millions of Americans. The Technology Assessment Program at AHRQ in conjunction with its EPCs provides technology assessments for CMS. These technology assessments are used by CMS to inform their national coverage decisions for the Medicare program as well a provide information to the Medicare carriers.

Project Objectives

Provide technical support for the Technology Assessment Program, producing technology assessments of the available evidence on a given topic. During every step in the process, the TA program will provide on-going consultation and guidance to the EPC. The TA program will help frame the scope of questions, develop or refine an analytic plan, and ensure accuracy and appropriateness of the technology assessments.

Project Methods

For each year of this task order, it is anticipated that approximately 4 to 12 technology assessments will be conducted. For each assignment a workplan that includes a cost estimate and a schedule of all deliverables, reviewed and approved by the TOO, with a copy to the Contracting Officer, will be submitted.
