RRTC ON HEALTH AND WELLNESS FOR PERSONS WITH LONG TERM DISABILITIES

Elena M. Andresen, PhD, Investigator

Project Number H144B990019 funded by DOE.
November 1, 2004 - September 30, 2009

Project Background

Measures of health tend to be heavily reliant on function and mobility. For people with impairments, the connection of health and mobility leads to measuring their health as poor and confounding the measurement of health with disability.

Project Objectives

The primary goal of this project of the RRTC is to produce and test a disability neutral measure of health status.

Project Methods

This is an Expert Panel project, with recommendations and activities carried out by the RRTC itself. Activities include literature reviews, consensus statements, and publications about methods and measure of health status for this population.

Project Findings

No findings to report at this time. Analysis is ongoing.

Project Status

Data collection. Active ongoing meetings with the Expert Panel.

Project Impact

Future outcomes for people with disabilities may be measured in terms relevant to their health, providing a better metric for understanding health interventions than conventional function-based measures.
