SERVICES EVALUATION AND EFFECTIVENESS COMPONENT (SEEC)

Hayden B. Bosworth, PhD, Co-Investigator

Project Number XVA 21-009 funded by MIRECC.
October 1, 2004 - September 30, 2009

Project Background

The VISN 6 MIRECC is a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research that optimizes identification, assessment, and treatment of veterans with post-deployment mental illness. The primary goal of the component is to create an evaluation infrastructure to support and enhance the research, education, and clinical MIRECC components within VISN 6.

Project Objectives

1. To evaluate the Research, Clinical and Education Component outcomes from the VISN 6 MIRECC. 2. To establish a Mental Health Services infrastructure that supports the development and improvement of mental health services provided to veterans. 3. To design and implement translational research that will close the loop between the MIRECC research portfolio and effective mental health services for post-deployment veterans. 4. To ensure the dissemination of research findings into clinical practice.

Project Methods

The SEEC will accomplish the objectives through building on the expertise of MIRECC investigators, the expertise of investigators in the Durham VA Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care, the Durham VA Center for Epidemiologic Information and Research Center (ERIC) and the VA National Center for Health Promotion. The SEEC will provide an extensive VA Health Services Research infrastructure to support health services research attuned to the VISN's patient care mission.

Project Impact

This component of the MIRECC will assure that the MIRECC does indeed translate new research data into clinically useful data and the clinical interventions are fed back to the research component. The SEEC will support innovative translational and health services research focused on the MIRECC's theme of post-deployment mental health. This will optimize treatment effectiveness for consumers while providing information to policy-makers on how to improve mental health services.
