Obtaining Remote Department of Defense Data Using CPRS – the Washington, DC VAMC Experience |
This class will discuss how to use remote patient data from the Department of Defense (DoD) to aid in evaluating patients transferred into the VA for care. Distinctions will be made between the unidirectional Federal Health Information Exchange (FHIE), the Bidirectional Health Information Exchange (BHIE), and how they are used to send and receive data between the DoD Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and the VA’s Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). We will discuss the information available for discharged Armed Forces personnel, those on active duty, and personnel being treated at the VA’s four Polytrauma Centers. Current capabilities and future plans will be discussed.
