2009 National Veterans Tee Tournamant

National Veterans TEE Tournament (Training - Exposure - Experience)

TEE off for fun at the 2009 National Veterans TEE Tournament, took place in and around Iowa City, Iowa, on September 7-10, 2009!

The first TEE Tournament was held in 1994 in Nauvoo, Illinois, at the Great River Bend Golf Course, hosted by the Iowa City VA Medical Center. At this inaugural event, 36 legally blind veterans participated from six Midwestern states. Since 1995, the event has been held in the Iowa City area.

Hundreds of veterans now attend, representing all areas of the country. In 2008, the TEE Tournament became one of VA’s six national rehabilitation special events, and was expanded to include not only visually impaired veterans, but those with other disabilities as well.

At the TEE Tournament, legally blind and disabled veterans are given an opportunity to develop new skills and strengthen their self esteem through adaptive golf, bowling, horseshoes and other activities. The Tournament uses a therapeutic format to promote rehabilitation, fellowship and camaraderie among the veterans attending.

Taking place over four days at locations throughout the Iowa City area, the National Veterans TEE Tournament features adaptive sports as well as a variety of social activities throughout the week for the participants, their companions and other guests. Participants include both men and women veterans of all age groups and with a variety of disabilities, as well as every branch and period of service.
