image of a man in rehab VA New York/New Jersey Healthcare Network's prosthetics service provides the most advanced prosthetic and orthotics treatment and the highest skilled care available in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). VA New York Harbor Health Care System's prosthetics service, the largest in VHA, is located in Manhattan. Together, VA's prosthetics and orthotics labs are the largest government agency-even larger than the U.S. Department of Defense.

The VANYHHS prosthetics lab provides state-of-the-art limb evaluations and fabrications for all VA Medical Centers throughout metropolitan New York/New Jersey, and also supports, evaluates and fits veterans and active-duty patients from all over the United States, including New England; Pennsylvania; Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Minnesota; and, on some occasions, individuals from other allied countries.

On any given day in the lab, it's not unusual to see several veterans with amputations being fitted in the fitting rooms while standing between parallel bars or Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom veterans running up and down the hallway on their new computer-aided limbs.

Area veterans are fortunate that the best VA prosthetics service is nearby. When called upon, VANYHHS prosthetic lab is ready to evaluate, fit and adjust artificial limbs for veterans and active-duty service men and women from any area of the country. For additional information, call (212) 686-7500, ext. 7945.
