We encourage you not to keep money or valuables when admitted, but you may do so at your own risk. The Medical Center cannot assume responsibility for funds or valuables in your possession, nor for items that are classified by law as contraband. The Medical Center will assume responsibility for your funds, if they are deposited with the Agent Cashier, Room 1A158. Upon discharge, for any amount deposited over $100, you will receive a check. The check may be cashed in the VA Canteen Retail Store with proper identification.
We will also assume responsibility for safekeeping items of value that are turned into the Patient Effects Clerk, Room A146. We suggest that you take advantage of the services of the Agent Cashier and the Patient Effects Clerk and keep only a small amount of cash in your possession for incidental needs. Patients' funds are kept in a non-interest bearing account.
Personal belongings brought to the Medical Center should be limited. Unfortunately, storage space is not available for luggage, large boxes or personal furniture. Please ask someone to take home any luggage you may have brought with you.
Items for proper personal care are encouraged. However, personal items such as your dentures, toothbrush, and razor blades should not be left on your food tray.
Medications you bring with you will not be sent to the ward at the time of admission. Pharmacy Service will maintain them until your physician determines a disposition. Upon request, medications (privately acquired) will be returned to you at the time of discharge.
All packages coming into this Medical Center are subject to inspection. Refusal to comply with inspections could result in non-admission. All unauthorized drugs and alcohol will be confiscated by the Medical Center police and could subject the offender to administrative action.
