Appointment Cancellations

How will patients be notified if clinics are cancelled due to a hurricane?
Patients will be notified by hospital staff via telephone if the hospital or outpatient clinic has to cancel appointments due to inclement whether. This will either be accomplished by our Automatic Telephone Callback System or a live clerk.

How will patients reschedule their appointment after cancellation due to severe weather?
Patients can reschedule their appointments by calling (813) 903-3650 or (866) 737-6842 until 10 p.m. After 10 p.m., calls will be forwarded to the VISN TelCare Line in Lake City, Florida, which then forwards the message to the hospital or outpatient clinic for follow-up. In addition, clerks will also contact the patients who had cancelled appointments and attempt to reschedule the appointment via telephone at a date and time convenient for him or her.

Pharmacy Refills

The Tampa VA pharmacy will continue to refill prescriptions via the refill hotline. If severe weather impacts the area, the U.S. Postal Service will attempt one delivery at the recipient's address. If this attempt fails, the USPS will hold the package for two weeks. If a patient runs out of medicine during a natural disaster, he or she should go to the nearest open VA facility to have prescriptions processed and filled. Please bring your empty medicine bottles with you. All patient records are available nationwide through the VA electronic records database.
