High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
Come and learn a little about hypertension, also known as high blood pressure.
- Arteries are vessels that carry blood from the heart to all the tissues.
- Normal blood pressure is considered 120 (systolic)/ 80 (diastolic)
- Systolic pressure (top number) = amount of pressure when heart beats
- Diastolic pressure (bottom number) = amount of pressure when heart is at rest
- What are the causes of hypertension? It is not known, however, many different factors play a part in high blood pressure including :
- genetics
- eating a lot of salt
- "stiff" arteries
- obesity
- age
- Symptoms: NONE! So please, get your blood pressure checked!
Treatments that may help lower blood pressure:
- Lifestyle changes such as: Diet, reduce salt intake, exercise, reduce alcohol consumption, and quit smoking. Please consult with your physician.
