High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

Come and learn a little about hypertension, also known as high blood pressure.

  • Arteries are vessels that carry blood from the heart to all the tissues.
  • Normal blood pressure is considered 120 (systolic)/  80 (diastolic)
  • Systolic pressure (top number) = amount of pressure when heart beats
  • Diastolic pressure (bottom number) = amount of pressure when heart is at rest
  • What are the causes of hypertension?  It is not known, however, many different factors play a part in high blood pressure including :
    • genetics
    • eating a lot of salt
    • "stiff" arteries
    • obesity
    • age
  • Symptoms: NONE!  So please, get your blood pressure checked!

Treatments that may help lower blood pressure:

  • Lifestyle changes such as: Diet, reduce salt intake, exercise, reduce alcohol consumption, and quit smoking.  Please consult with your physician.
  • Medications
