Surgery Options

Surgery is Level 5 of the MOVE program.  This program is limited to few VHA facilities, and is for patients who meet certain criteria.  Surgery is usually an option after you have tried all other options such as exercise and diet.  There are different types of surgeries.  The two most common are listed below.

Gastric Bypass:  Procedure that makes the size of your stomach smaller.  It makes you full quicker, thereby helping you reduce the amount of food you eat.

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB):   A band is placed around the upper stomach which makes you eat less. This reduces the number of calories you intake.

Speak with your MOVE! Counselor for more information.
