Valuables
You are advised to keep all valuables at home. The Medical Center is not responsible for money or other valuables that you might keep in your room. We ask that you keep no more than $10 cash on hand. Any additional money should be deposited with the Agent Cashier.

Agent Cashier
The Agent Cashier is located on the 1st floor, room C-101. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The cashier also collects copayment fees for care at the Stratton VA Medical Center and reimburses beneficiary travel vouchers. Prohibited Articles
Patients are prohibited from possessing alcoholic beverages, narcotics, firearms, ammunition, knives, other weapons, lighter fluid, non-safety matches, straight-edge razors and medicine not prescribed by a doctor, or medicine from home. Patients possessing any type of weapons are required to turn these items over to the VA Police located in the main lobby for safekeeping (items will be returned upon discharge).

Smoking Policy
The Medical Center is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is permitted outside the facility in the designated smoking shelter, patio entrance - between B and C wing or beyond yellow lines only. Persons identified smoking in any other areas will be asked to move to the designated smoking area. Those failing to comply are subject to citation by VA Police. Fire/Disaster Response
The Medical Center has a fire and disaster plan for the protection of both patients and staff. If you discover a fire, please notify an employee as soon as possible. If you are on a ward that needs to be evacuated, please follow the instructions from the employees. Exit signs indicate locations of emergency exits. Fire alarms are located near each exit.

Zero Tolerance for Violence
In order to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, the Stratton VA Medical Center has a "Zero Tolerance" for violence. Behavior that is disruptive, threatening or violent will not be tolerated and should be reported to staff or VA Police immediately. Once identified, corrective action will be implemented as necessary to insure the safety of all parties. VA Police provide training to staff in the proper response of work violent incidents, as well as offering critical incident stress de-briefing services to anyone involved in a violent incident. Cameras, Video Equipment, Tape Recorders and Cellular Phones
To ensure patient privacy, cameras, video equipment and tape recorders are prohibited in the Medical Center. If your family or friends wish to bring in a camera, video camera or tape recorder, they must make the appropriate arrangements in advance with the ward clerk or nursing staff. Cellular phones should not be used in the Medical Center as they can affect sensitive medical equipment.

VA Police
VA Police are federal law enforcement officers appointed by the Secretary, Department of Veterans Affairs to provide for all security and law enforcement functions on VA property. Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be contacted by in-house telephone at ext. 66750 or 62911 in an emergency or you can stop by their office located in the main lobby. In addition to responding to and investigating all criminal complaints (traffic accidents, assaults, thefts, etc.), VA Police also provide a wide range of community service functions including assisting motorists, providing escorts from the building to parking areas, and giving aid and assistance to those in need.
