Valuables
For your safekeeping you are advised to keep all valuables at home. The Medical Center is not responsible for money or other valuables that you might bring and store in your room. We ask that you keep no more than $10 cash on hand. Any additional money should be deposited with the Agent Cashier.

Agent Cashier
The Agent Cashier assists patients with check cashing, travel funds, and co-payments. The Agent Cashier's office is located in building 2's basement, room 15. It is open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to accept payments on bills, receive beneficiary travel, or deposit funds for patient accounts. Patient withdrawals can be made from your account on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (only) from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. A maximum of $500 may be withdrawn at any one time. A check will be sent to the veteran's home address at the time of discharge for any remaining balance over $500.

Prohibited Items
Patients are prohibited from having alcoholic beverages, narcotics, firearms, ammunition, knives, other weapons, lighter fluid, non-safety matches, straight edge razors, or any medications from home. Firearms and other dangerous weapons should be given to the VA police for safekeeping. Smoking Policy
The hospital is a smoke-free facility. Staff, visitors, volunteers and patients may not smoke anywhere indoors or within 25 feet of the Medical Center. Smoking is permitted in selected indoor locations and outdoor smoking shelter locations. You are asked to be considerate of non-smokers. You are subject to a fine of up to $50 if found not in compliance with any directives posted for safety purposes.

Fire/Disaster Drill
The Medical Center and ROPC have a fire and disaster plan for the protection of both patients and staff. If you discover a fire, please notify an employee as soon as possible. If you are on a unit that needs to be evacuated, please follow the instructions from the employees. Exit signs indicate locations of emergency exits. Fire alarms are located near each exit or dial 3333 on any VA phone.

Zero Tolerance for Violence
In order to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, the Medical Center has a "zero tolerance" for violence. Behavior that is disruptive, threatening or violent will result in immediate action being taken.

Cameras, Video Equipment, Tape Recorders and Cellular Phones
For patient privacy, cameras, video equipment, tape recorders, and cellular phones are generally prohibited. If your family or friends wish to bring in a camera, video camera or tape recorder they must make the appropriate arrangements with the nurse manager. Cellular phones are prohibited.

VA Police
VA Police are on duty 24 hours/day for your care and protection. They can be reached by dialing 3333. Do not hesitate to contact them if the need arises or if a family member or friend needs to be escorted to his/her car.

Security Cameras
For your safety, and the safety of visitors and employees, some areas at the Medical Center are monitored by 24-hour security camera surveillance.
