Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC)

The VA Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) is a facility created to promote and support clinical research in the Buffalo Community and throughout VISN 2.

The Clinical & Translational Research Center is located on the 8th floor of the Western NY VA Healthcare System on Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, New York. It is a newly remodeled unit designed to support clinical research within the VA and the University at Buffalo community. It is intended to be used for both outpatient and inpatient-based clinical trials, for both veteran and non-veteran patients, as well as healthy volunteers.

Facilities Available
  • Nine research subject rooms suitable for inpatient research
  • Two Examination Rooms
  • Procedure Room for sample preparation and temporary storage
  • Patient waiting and reception area
  • Office space for research staff
  • Locked Medication Room
Types of Research Projects
  • The CTRC facility is appropriate for any type of clinical research project requiring:
    • Access to inpatient facilities — overnight to extended stays
    • Access to a site for conduct of minimal to moderate risk procedures
  • Outpatient Studies — Well-equipped Exam Rooms
  • Examples of Study Types:
    • Drug Development
    • Pharmacokinetic
    • Pharmacodynamic
    • Physiology
    • Nutrition and Metabolism
    • Studies requiring longitudinal follow-up
Facility Costs
The CTRC provides access to all laboratory and diagnostic facilities at the VA for the support of CTRC-based research. An itemized list of services and associated charges is available to facilitate protocol development and budgeting. The per day charge for use of the CTRC is reasonable.

Requirements
  • All Projects must be reviewed and approved by the VA IRB, scientific review committee and other applicable committees (e.g. Radiation Safety).
  • Non-VA Investigators must obtain a WOC appointment at the VA.
  • Non-VA Investigators must identify a VA coinvestigator to assume on-site responsibility for the conduct of the study.
  • Currently, research staff (e.g. nurses, coordinators, etc) are provided by the investigator. Please contact us for rates.
