Visitor Information

Visitors
Your family and friends are welcome to visit you at the Medical Center. We ask that their stay be short and that they be respectful of all patients. Children under the age of 15 are not permitted to visit above the first floor, but special arrangements may be made through your Nurse Manager. We do not normally allow children because of the danger of infection to both the children and our other patients. Visitors should not bring food or beverages to patients unless they have permission from a staff member. Visitors are asked not to eat in patients' rooms. Intensive Care Unit visitors are limited to one-half hour visits, three times each day.

Visiting Hours
Patient's relatives and friends are welcome to visit 10:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. daily, with the following exceptions:

  • Visiting with patients who are seriously ill is permitted at any time and limited only by the patient's ability to receive visitors.

  • Visiting with patients in the Intensive Care Unit is limited to one-half hour, three times each day (10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m./2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m./7:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.).

  • Visiting hours for the psychiatry unit are 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

  • Visting hours for Rehabilitation Unit are:
    Weekdays: 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.;
    Saturdays: 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.;
    Sundays: 10:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
    The rehab team must approve any exceptions to the visiting hours. Please be considerate of other patients and limit visitors to two at a time.

  • The Charge Nurse on the Transitional Care Unit may grant exceptions to the visiting hours and exceptions to the children's age for that unit.
Visitors exiting the Medical Center after hours should use the first floor Veterans Service Center entrance. Waiting Rooms
There are waiting rooms throughout the Medical Center. The first floor Veterans Service Center lobby may also be used. Please ask a staff member for the location of the nearest waiting room. TVs and reading materials have been placed in these areas for your enjoyment.

Parking
Parking areas have been designated for patients, visitors and employees. Patients and visitors may park in the VA parking garage (Stadium Place entrance) free of charge. In an effort to maximize parking spaces for outpatient appointments, patients that are scheduled for admittance are asked to please keep their cars home.

We ask that those of you with special parking needs consider asking family or friends for assistance in transport/pick-up drop off arrangements.

Handicapped parking for specially equipped vehicles (wheelchair lift devices), is available in Lot #1 (located on the corner of Irving Avenue and Van Buren Street).

The Valor Inn is located on the 9th floor of the Medical Center. It was established to provide cost free, temporary lodging for veterans. It is available on a first-come, first - serve basis. The Valor Inn provides rooms for veterans who travel long distances (50 miles or more) and have early morning appointments, or outpatient procedures.

Upon established eligibility for temporary lodging in the Valor Inn, the veterans medical care provider and/or social worker must electronically enter a request. The request will then be approved or disapproved based on availability. The medical care provider and/or social worker will then notify the veteran of reservation status.

Check in time is 2:00 p.m., on the first floor, Veterans Service Center. Check out time is 10:00 a.m.
