Veteran Outreach
Initiative
VA Volunteers Together Making a Difference
VA outreach efforts have shown
that a large number of veterans are
unaware of their VA benefits. Many
are without health care coverage,
whose income status may have
changed, are newly unemployed, or
have recently returned from active
duty service. Volunteers have the
power to help VA promote health care
to the veterans who need it most.
Volunteers play an important role
in advocating for veterans. You have
the influence to broaden the base
of advocacy support for veterans
through your strong community ties
and your dedication to serving those
that served.
This year, voluntary service will
once again take the lead in coordinating
several mini stand down events.
Veterans will receive a warm welcome
from volunteers, military surplus,
lunch, health care, employment and
compensation benefit information,
clothing, and a host of other needed
items. With your support, many
veterans will enroll for VA health
care for the first time. Some of these
veterans may have recently served in
Iraq or Afghanistan and others will be
from the WWII, Korea and Vietnam
eras. It is inconceivable to many of us
that we still have veterans living in our
community who have been entitled to
VA health care benefits for over 60
years and have never applied.
