Don’t Fall Prey to Identity Theft! Get a New VIC
Protect yourself from identity theft by getting a new Veteran Identification Card (VIC). This updated version doesn’t contain your Social Security number or birthdate. The only information that appears is your name and, if applicable, the words “service connected,” “prisoner of war” and “purple heart.”

Replacing your VIC is easy. Visit a VA medical facility that has a VIC system to have your picture taken and your record updated. In about seven days, your new identity-theft-proof card will arrive in the mail.

You can replace your card Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m., at the Albany, Bath, Buffalo, Canandaigua and Syracuse VA Medical Centers and at the Rome, Binghamton, Rochester, Niagara Falls and Dunkirk community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). Systems are scheduled to be installed at the Massena, Oswego and Carthage CBOCs, as well.
