Web Printing Travelogue   Just as your passport or airline luggage tags show where you've been, you can set up any Web page you print to provide a history of where it came from, too. Internet Explorer and other browsers allow printing details like the address and date printed in the margins of your printed Web pages. This comes in handy if you have to revisit a Website indicated in a handout, or in determining how old the data is from a printed page.
  1. In Internet Explorer's menus, select File > Page Setup....
  2. In the Headers and Footers section you'll see several codes typed into the Header and Footer boxes. These codes indicate what information will be added to the top and bottom of the paper whenever you print a Web page:
    To print this... Type...
    Window title &w
    Page address (URL) &u
    Date in short format &d
    Date in long format &D
    Time &t
    Time in 24-hour format &T
    Current page number &p
    Total number of pages &P
  3. You can also integrate regular text with the codes. For example, "Page &p of &P" gives you, "Page 1 of 5."
  4. If you're preparing handouts that consist of printed Web pages, you may wish to delete some of the codes that will produce unwanted information like the page numbering or the dates.
