Web Surfing Tips
|
|
With the recent outbreak of computer viruses and worms spreading across the Internet, traffic on the World Wide Web has slowed down noticeably. Here are some wise Web surfing tips to make the wait not seem so long.
- Multitask: Browse the web while you are working on e-mails or doing other work on the computer. Click on a web page link, then instead of watching the screen for it to come up, move to your Inbox and go to work. Check back in a couple minutes on the website. Switch among open programs on the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen.
- Multisurf: When you're browsing the web, do it in several places at once. In your Internet browser software go to File > New > Window (Ctrl + N) and open up several windows at once. While one web page is loading, surf another page in another previously loaded window. Switch among open browser windows on the Windows Taskbar (bottom of screen) or on the Macintosh Application menu (upper right corner).
- Time of day: Whether you're on the Interstate or the Internet, avoid peak usage times, because more users slows traffic. Many on the East Coast find that mornings are best because the other Americans you're normally fighting for Internet access are still waking up.
