Originally established as an Army General Hospital, this Veterans' Hospital was erected by the Army in 1943 during World War II at an approximate cost of $5,000,000 and is located 4 miles East of Martinsburg, W. Va. It was originally named for Newton D. Baker, a native of Martinsburg, and Secretary of War in Woodrow Wilson's Cabinet during World War I. The newest construction of the main medical facility occurred on July 1, 1984. Regional care includes 69 inpatient beds, 178 Nursing Home beds, and a 312 bed Domiciliary. |
