The new $10,000,000 Veterans' Hospital consisting of 450 beds with adjunct
facilities was completed in 1950. It is located on the site of the old Fort
Humbug fortifications where the Shreveport defending force armed the bluff
over Red River with charred logs to simulate cannon during the War between
the States, the ruse successfully preventing attack. PM 1955 |
