Women Veterans Program Centers
Women Veterans Program Centers
All of the network Veterans Centers are small, community-based, outpatient mental health clinics that offer free, confidential counseling to veterans and their families. Vet Center staff are experienced clinicians with special training in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They provide counseling to female and male veterans who require such services to overcome psychological trauma. Veterans Centers offer special services for Women Veterans who may have experienced sexual assault, harassment, or discrimination while in the military. Most Veterans Centers have female counselors on staff with special expertise in treating sexual trauma. Any veteran who has experienced sexual trauma is eligible for treatment, regardless of the time during which she served. Reporting the incidence is not a requirement for eligibility.
Services provided at the Veterans Centers include individual counseling, group counseling, family and couples counseling, alcohol and drug counseling, benefits assistance and referral, employment counseling and referral, community education, liaison with VA Medical Centers and Clinics, referrals to community agencies, and information on local and national veterans organizations and agencies.
Hours of Operation for most Veterans Centers are Monday - Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Many Veterans Centers have some evening hours also. Call the Veterans Center closest to you for their hours. Walk-in clients will be seen as soon as possible, but we encourage you to make appointments.
Eligibility: Any woman who is a veteran and who has suffered trauma as a result of having been sexually assaulted, harassed, or discriminated against while in the military is eligible for services.
